The starting point
The FA’s April 2014 report includes formations and team information. A formation offers a compact way to arrange names, but it does not show every player’s movement, pressing responsibility or adjustment through the match. Treat it as a representation in the report, not a complete tactical model.
A useful way to read the evidence
Put the reported shape beside the lineup and then collect specific passages of play separately. Distinguish a movement you can observe from a purpose you infer. If there is no sufficiently detailed evidence, keep the analysis modest. This allows a reader to learn how reports present teams without attaching unsupported tactical claims to individual players.
Keep in your notes
- Attribute the reported shape.
- Separate shape from movement.
- Label tactical interpretation.
