Restarts in a Match Report

Read a reported restart without supplying an unseen refereeing explanation.

The starting point

Reports often mention corners, free kicks or other restarts briefly. The relevant law edition helps explain the category, but a short report may not describe all the circumstances of the award. The absence of detail does not justify reconstructing an unseen incident as though it had been documented.

A useful way to read the evidence

Record the restart that the report names and the event that followed. If you discuss the law, label that as general context rather than a ruling on the particular incident. Use video or a more detailed official account only when it actually shows the relevant sequence. This keeps an accessible explanation from becoming an unsupported retrospective refereeing decision.

Keep in your notes

  • Record what the report names.
  • Label general law context.
  • Do not reconstruct an unseen incident.
